United Kingdom Study Tour 2025

The second CASE Global Leaders Programme will see an international cohort visit the United Kingdom in September 2025.
Led by President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Professor Mark Scott AO, the Programme will visit leading institutions in the United Kingdom including the University of Oxford, King’s College London, University of Glasgow, University of Exeter, University of Bristol, University College London, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, Durham University, University of Sunderland and Teesside University.
Delegates will also be invited to a private dinner and session at the annual Universities UK conference for Presidents and Vice-Chancellors and spend an afternoon on ‘universities, geopolitics and knowledge diplomacy’ hosted by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Key themes and topics for the study tour will include:
How UK universities are increasingly collaborating on advocacy and engagement initiatives
The rise of the ‘civic’ agenda – as a primary driver of UK universities efforts to renew their social, public and political license
The impact of geopolitical turbulence on the global mission of UK universities
How university leaders are approaching reputation, advancement and advocacy in financially challenging times.
The Study Tour will be developed and facilitated by a global faculty of expert university practitioners in reputation advancement and advocacy.
It will be attended by a carefully curated cohort of University Executive Board (Cabinet) members with a variety of institutional responsibilities who share an interest in leadership development, insights and networks relating to reputation, advancement and advocacy.
Applications for this international cohort are welcome from Executive Board/ Cabinet members (including Presidents and Vice-Chancellors) from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Europe and beyond.
Following the Study Tour, the Programme will provide delegates with:
two “Reputation, Advocacy and Advancement in Action” sessions – either in-person/ hybrid/ virtual, with the opportunity attend VIP dinners with leading guest speakers from outside higher education;
an invitation to a ‘Cohorts Collide’ workshop of facilitated exchange and engagement with another incoming CASE Global Leaders Programme Cohort, followed by a networking reception;
a ‘Global Peer’ brokerage service for each delegate that will facilitate an introduction to a global senior leader based on development goals;
an invitation to attend the CASE Summit for Leaders in Advancement conference in New York City for the July following completion of your programme.

Sunday 31 August
Afternoon delegation pre-briefing and optional social activity.
Evening dinner in the Principal’s apartments, University of Glasgow.
Monday 1 September
Morning and lunch: University of Glasgow.
Afternoon: Travel to Newcastle.
Evening: Universities of North East England showcase with Durham University, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, University of Sunderland and Teesside University.
Tuesday 2 September
Morning: Travel to London.
Afternoon: Universities, geopolitics and knowledge diplomacy – workshop with UK Diplomatic Service and High Tea at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). A joint session with the UK Cohort who visited the US East Coast in March 2025.
Evening: Diplomatic reception at Australia House (tbc).
Wednesday 3 September
Morning: King’s College London and University College London – joint sessions on policy impact and working with health
Afternoon: Travel to Exeter.
Evening: Invitation to Private Dinner, Universities UK Vice-Chancellor’s Annual Conference, hosted by the University of Exeter.
Thursday 4 September
Morning: University of ExeterUniversities UK Conference.
Afternoon: Travel to Bristol and visit the University of Bristol.
Evening: Dinner at the University of Bristol.
Friday 5 September
Travel to Oxford.
Day at the University of Oxford
Optional evening in Oxford/ return to London
